You may obtain certified copies of birth, marriage and death records from the Town Clerk's Office. The Town Clerk serves as the Register of Vital Records and Statistics for the Town of Foxborough. Birth and death records in Massachusetts are recorded in the city/town of occurrence and in the city/town of residence at the time of the event. A marriage is recorded only in the town where the couple filed their marriage intentions.
Certified copies of records may only be issued after the event has been registered (i.e., assigned a registered number, date of record, and clerk's signature). All certified copies must contain only the information recorded on the original record.
The Foxborough Town Clerk's Office maintains the following Vital Records:
BIRTH:
Birth records of all children whose parents resided in Foxborough at the time of the birth, whether the birth was in Foxborough or in another city/town within the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Access to out of wedlock births (impounded records) is limited by Sec. 2A, Chapter 46, M.G.L., with positive identification, to the following:
-
Subject of the record (child)
-
Parents listed on the record
-
Legal guardian of the child
-
Legal representative of the child
-
Government officials needing access for their official duties
MARRIAGE:
Marriage licenses of couples who filed their "Marriage Intentions" here in Foxborough, whether they were married in Foxborough or in another Massachusetts city/town. If you lived in Foxborough and filed your intentions in another city/town in Massachusetts, your marriage certificate will be filed in that office. Married couples usually require certified copies for health insurance, social security benefits and the Registry of Motor Vehicles.
If an individual filing marriage intentions was born out of wedlock, access to the intention and certificate (impounded record) is restricted to those listed below:
-
Party A/Party B
-
Legal representative of Party A/Party B
-
Parent or guardian of Party A/Party B
-
Governmental official requiring access for his or her official duties.
DEATH:
Death certificates for those who actually died in Foxborough as well as those whose legal residence was Foxborough, but died in another Massachusetts community.
