Foxborough Power Choice to provide new prices and 25 months of price stability
FOXBOROUGH – Foxborough Power Forward prices will change in October 2022. The change is because the Town’s contract with the program’s current electricity supplier, Dynegy, is coming to an end, and a new contract with Direct Energy will go into effect. Electricity prices are higher now than they were when the Town signed its contract with Dynegy, and as a result, Foxborough Power Forward prices will increase with the new contract. However, the prices will be fixed for 25 months until November 2024, so if electricity prices continue to rise over the next 25 months, Foxborough Power Forward prices will not.
“Since this program began, Power Forward has provided a more economical option for Foxborough residents and businesses against the standard electric supply rates,” said Foxborough Town Manager Bill Keegan. “While these renewal rates are uncharacteristically high based on conditions beyond our control, we still believe, that these rates will be competitive with the next edition of National Grid's electric supply rates."
The new prices will be as follows:
- Power Forward Standard: 16.74 ¢/kWh. Most participants are enrolled in Power Forward Standard.
- Power Forward Green: 19.74 ¢/kWh. Power Forward Green is an option that provides 100% renewable electricity from the New England region.
The new prices will go into effect in October 2022 and will first appear on November 2022 National Grid bills. They will be fixed until November 2024 and will not change until then. In comparison, National Grid’s prices change every 6 months or less, and new prices will go into effect on November 1.
Participants in Foxborough Power Forward have saved more than $2.7 million in total since its launch in 2017. Under the new contract, the program continues to provide the potential for savings as well as benefits such as long-term price stability and consumer protections. However, because National Grid’s future prices are not known, future savings can never be guaranteed.
Current participants in Foxborough Power Forward will be automatically enrolled in the new contract with Direct Energy and do not need to take any action. Foxborough Power Choice prices only impact the supply services charge on participants’ National Grid electricity bills. National Grid’s delivery services charge is not impacted by participation in Foxborough Power Forward.
Foxborough Power Forward participants who wish to make a change to their enrollment, such as moving from one program option to another or opting out, must submit that change request no later than September 30 in order for it to be effective when the new contract and new pricing go into effect. After that date, program participants retain the right to make changes at any time in the future with no fee or penalty. Enrollment change requests can be submitted online at MassPowerForward.com/Foxborough or by calling customer support with the Town’s program consultants at 1-844-241-8596.
Tax-exempt account holders in Foxborough Power Forward are reminded that they must submit their tax-exemption documentation to Direct Energy if they wish to retain tax-exempt status in the program. Information about how to do that is available at MassPowerChoice.com/Foxborough.
Foxborough Power Forward is a group electricity purchasing program provided by the Town of Foxborough to the community. Through the program, the Town chooses an electricity supplier for the community and determines the price for the community’s electricity supply. The program provides a town-vetted alternative to National Grid’s Basic Service and to other electricity supply offers in the marketplace. New electricity accounts in Foxborough are automatically enrolled in Foxborough Power Forward. The Town of Foxborough does not receive any financial compensation from the program. All program participants have the right to opt out at any time.
