EMPLOYEE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CONFLICT OF INTEREST LAW
(M.G.L. CHAPTER 268A)

  • On an annual basis, each municipal employee must receive a copy of the Summary of the Conflict of Interest Law for Municipal Employees. Each employee must sign a written acknowledgment indicating that they have received the summary.
  • Each employee shall also take an on-line training program through the Ethics Commission website: http://www.mass.gov/ethics/ You may locate the training program by clicking on the following link:http://www.muniprog.eth.state.ma.us/page545623.html
  • Upon completion of the training session, each employee shall print out a completion certificate; the employee must file a copy of the completion certificate with the Town Clerk's Office.
  • New employees shall receive a copy of the summary within 30 days of their employment with the town and on an annual basis thereafter. They must also complete the training program through the Ethics Commission website within 30 days of the date on which they commence employment with the town and every 2 years thereafter.
  • Municipal employee is defined as "any person performing services for or holding an office, position, employment or membership in a state, county or municipal agency, whether by election, appointment, contract of hire or engagement, whether serving with or without compensation, on a full, regular, part-time, intermittent or consultant basis.
